• Definition
Functional data analysis is a branch of statistics that analyses data by providing information about curves, surfaces or anything else varying over a continuum. Functional data are usually a parameterisation of timeseries data into e.g. splines or other polynomial descriptions, but can also be other types of data fit (exponential etc.).
